Quick Description
This blog post explores how digital media can be strategically leveraged to build brand trust, engage audiences, and benefit your own personal goals in this modern time.
Digital media should be leveraged because it has completely changed the way people communicate and take in information, especially for younger audiences. As a public relations college student, I see digital media as the main way people stay connected, form opinions, and interact with organizations. Platforms like social media, blogs, and websites are no longer optional tools; they are essential for reaching people in a fast and meaningful way.
One of the biggest reasons digital media is so important is that it allows for real-time communication. Traditional mass media can take days or weeks to publish a news-worthy section, while digital media allows users to respond with the click of a finger within minutes. This makes communication feel more relevant and timely. People in the modern day are more impatient; this is no secret. If an organization cannot communicate in a fast, timely manner, then it risks losing its credibility. All of this is easily avoided with digital media.
Two-way communication is another reason why digital media should be leveraged. Traditional media is mainly one-way communication, meaning they push their message out into the public and there are little to no direct responses. Digital media allows for interactions; consumers can like, share, comment, etc., which allows for more interactions and conversations. This allows consumers to feel seen, which only creates a deeper bond between them and the organization. Take a step back and think, have you ever felt like your voice truly mattered when it came to traditional media? Did they allow you to easily communicate with them?
Something else to think about is the personal benefits that come from leveraging digital media. Platforms like LinkedIn, personal blogs, or even detailed social media profiles can highlight your values, interests, and goals. This makes you more memorable to recruiters and helps align you with opportunities that fit your goals. Over time, this also supports personal and professional development. This is something that has been hammered into my head as a Public Relations student. Organizations will check everything that is on any of your social platforms before hiring you. Being clean and organized online can boost your job opportunities sky-high.
Overall, digital media should be leveraged because it matches how people communicate today. It allows organizations to be timely, interactive, and adaptable. From my perspective, digital media is not just a trend but a necessary tool for communication. Organizations that successfully use digital media are more likely to stay relevant, build trust, and create lasting connections with their audiences. Also, never forget the personal benefits that are available by leveraging your own digital media. In this new world, showing that you are competent with digital media can change your entire job search dilemma.
